What a difference a $400,000 domain name can make

While $400,000 might sound like a lot to spend on a domain name, the reality is, sales like this happen every week, some weeks, they happen every day. Take a look at sites like DNJournal and NameBio and you’ll find an almost endless list of six figure domain sales, and plenty of seven figure sales. And these are just the sales that are reported.

A couple of years ago I was at NamesCon in Portugal when Voice.com sold for $30M, yes you read that right, $30M for one domain name, no website, business or existing revenue, just the domain.

So why do some companies spend so much money on a domain name? Jony Volk broke it down on Twitter this week and it’s a great read.

This is one of the best threads I’ve ever read on the real impact a great domain name can make on a business. Thanks to Jony for sharing his journey 🙏
