Small Business Sunday: Read Blogs In Your Niche

Hello and welcome to Small Business Sunday! Today I’m going to discuss a very simple topic but one that many small business owners overlook. Whether you’re running a web hosting company or a winery there are other people doing exactly what you’re doing, and sharing their experiences for free online.

I know that most of my readers are very tech-savvy so reading blogs in your niche may be a given. This post really is for all the small businesses out there that don’t currently use the Internet as a tool to learn more about how to grow and improve their own business. When I started Domaining the first thing I did was found every single blog that I could. In the Domain Industry we are lucky to have Domaining.com aggregating the top domain blogs together, many industries don’t have this, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t bloggers in the niche!

So how can you find blogs in your niche and how do you know which ones are reliable sources?

It should all start with a simple Google search, try something like “your_industry blog” or “blogs about your_industry.” Try to see if you can spot an aggregator as these can easily help you monitor a number of blogs in a single niche quickly and easily.

Another way to find blogs in your niche is to use Technorati which has a directory of highly credible blogs all organized by category. You can determine how reliable a source a particular blog is by looking at its authority. This is a great way to not only find blogs in your niche but also assure that they are leaders in the space.

Last but certainly not least – comment on the top blogs in your niche. Get to know the bloggers and help them get to know you. It’s always great to make more connections in your space and you might find a mentor that can help you take your business to the next level. If you enjoy what you do then reading blogs in your niche should be enjoyable and spark some great ideas.
