Hello, happy Sunday, and welcome to my weekend musings. Well it feels a bit like summer still here in LA, above is a photo I took from our patio yesterday. Of course we’re all wimps in LA and since it has dipped into the 60’s we do have the heat on in our place. It’s been interesting to watch my Facebook timeline as my friends on the East Coast share photos of blizzards and is just a reminder of why there really is no place like home!
The last couple of months have been incredibly busy at Fashion Metric. In the eCommerce world Q4 is the busiest time of year and between Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the launch of our monthly shirt club we have been completely slammed. It’s a great feeling, guys are really enjoying what we are doing and it’s clear that we are changing the way people shop online. Last week Complex.com wrote an article about us that’s been sending a nice flow of customers and we have some pretty exciting offerings coming-up this week in our Christmas countdown.
We have been traveling a lot and find ourselves now spending more time in New York, San Francisco, and Las Vegas than we do in LA! We spent over two weeks in San Francisco/Silicon Valley and now we’re going back next Tuesday and Wednesday, never a dull moment!
Daina also gave a talk at one of the top startup conferences in the world last week, Lean Startup Conference in San Francisco. It was an amazing experience and pretty insane to be holding her iPhone while she was giving the talk as tweets and mentions were coming-in just about every second! A number of people recognized Daina throughout the day and pulled her aside to congratulate her on the talk, very exciting times!
On the domain-front December has been a fantastic month for sales and it looks like four more domains will sell over the next few days. I’m not sure if it’s something in the air or people just trying to stack-up their expenses before the tax year ends but it’s been a great month for selling domains. I am also working with some amazing startups now helping them acquire a domain for their brand and ideating on possible options. There are lots of questions about new gTLDs and I think that startups are definitely interested in branding around some of the new offerings coming out.
Yesterday I spoke to a startup founder that really wanted to build on a .XYZ domain and then later in the day met someone who really wanted to build on .LOVE. Pretty cool to see things already taking shape here. As you all know I love .COMs, still invest in them and sell them all the time, but I couldn’t be more excited about the new gTLDs and the opportunities they are going to offer people all over the world.
Okay, well it’s 9:49AM and I’ve spent the first two hours of Sunday morning working away. Time to start decorating the house, for those who don’t know we tend to go a bit overboard with the decorating during the holidays, don’t worry, I’ll share pictures once we’re done.
