Google’s Next Panda Update Is Here

Panda

While many people used to think of a “Panda” as a friendly, slow-moving bear that enjoys bamboo, it has been given a whole new meaning in the search world. Google’s Panda update has had a major impact on search results and it isn’t a one time event since Panda updates continue to roll out, with the latest iteration going live today.

According to SearchEngineLand.com:

Google has confirmed a Panda update is rolling out and this specific update is “more finely targeted.” (source)

For those who missed the memo, Google recently announced that new Panda updates would be coming every month so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but as usual, search results will change. This update apparently has signals used to soften the algorithm a bit so I wouldn’t expect any dramatic results but it never hurts to see how your site was impacted.

I used to check my rankings daily in Google Webmaster Tools but found that any major ranking changes can be seen almost immediately in your traffic numbers. If you’re not getting less visitors, there’s a good chance you didn’t get impacted. There will be another update next month and I’ll do my best to keep you in the know, but for now, don’t panic, it’s unlikely this “fine tuning” will help or hurt you.
