Domaining MBA Monday: 3 Reasons Why You Should Join The ICA

Domaining MBA Monday

Hello, happy Monday, and welcome to another Domaining MBA Monday here on MorganLinton.com! Today I wanted to talk about a topic that is more important than you might think and it took me years to realize just how important it is. What I’m talking about is protecting the rights of domain name investors.

Let’s face it, many people still think that all domain investors are cybersquatters even though only a very small percentage are. This also means that many people in Washington DC, the people who make the laws, also group us all together. Without anyone to represent us and help protect our rights, our industry might not exist.

It’s an ongoing process and while you might think you can’t make a difference, I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can. The ICA, which stands for the Internet Commerce Association is an organization whose purpose is to protect the rights of domain investors. I became a proud member last year and here are three reasons why you should be too:

  1. Learn about current issues impacting domain investors – it was incredibly eye-opening to see all of the current issues on the table that directly impact our business. From new UDRP providers to new gTLDs there is a lot going on and a lot you probably don’t know about. When you join the ICA you have access to their mailing list and will quickly see everything that is going on behind-the-scenes.
  2. Make a difference – I’ve always been one of those people that likes to make a difference. If you are passionate about this industry and want to make a difference, joining the ICA is one of the best ways to do it. Through your donations and participation you can absolutely help to impact the future of domain investing.
  3. Learn from industry leaders – there are some heavy hitters in the ICA and I read every single email I get and learn a lot from hearing the discussions that take place. I’m still incredibly new to the ICA so have mostly been listening and learning. I can tell you that I’m learning a lot and learning more every day.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about the ICA or share any of your own experiences below. Comment and let your voice be heard!
