Happy New Year + 3 Action Items To Get Your Business Organized In 2014

Hello, Happy New Year and welcome to 2014! We just got back from an amazing New Year’s Eve celebration on Catalina Island and while it was a great adventure there really is no place like home. If you haven’t been to Catalina before…here’s what it looks like:

I could not be more excited about 2014, and since as many of you know I’m a bit addicted to working (yes I love what I do), I thought now would be a good time to share some action items for 2014.

I have always believed in starting a year full speed ahead. Rather than easing into the year I like to get going right-away, holidays are over, let’s get to work. Of course we do end-up working over the holidays so it’s more of a continuation but you get the point. Small break for another great shot of Catalina Island…did I mention that everyone drives golf carts?

Below are three action items that should be on your to-do list this week. Start planning early and you’ll set yourself up for a great Q1:

  1. Forecast – do you have a forecast for your business? Do you know how much you plan to make this month? How much you plan to spend? How many customers you want to bring onboard or sales you want to make? If not, make it now, there’s no better way to get on track than to put together a solid plan with hard numbers you can hold yourself to.
  2. Conferences/event planning – what big deals are you going to close in 2014? How are you going to make it happen? There’s a good chance that a few conferences or events you are going to will have huge potential for your business. Don’t just show-up hoping to make the most of things, put together a plan and goals you want to achieve.
  3. Separate your “wants” and your “musts” – one of the biggest problem I think most entrepreneurs have is wanting to do too many things at once. Now is the time to very seriously consider what goals you have this year that you can and will realistically achieve and which are a stretch. Trying to do too many things at once usually means doing a mediocre job at a lot of things. Stay focused and really net out what you need to do this year.

2014 will mark my seventh year writing this blog. I couldn’t be more excited to have all of the amazing readers coming along for another adventure. As usual you can expect it’s going to be a wild ride, get ready 2014, here we come!
