Three Thoughts On A Friday Night
Well it’s Friday night at 9:10PM and I thought I would share a few weekend musings a day early. This has been one of those weeks where you just have to pinch yourself to make sure it’s all real. At times like this that I find myself the most reflective and as usual, I’d like to share my thoughts with all of you, so here we go!
What a difference a phone call makes
I am in the middle of two negotiations with end users and this week a phone call with each made a big difference. I talk on the phone a lot, still I always feel like I could be doing it more, especially when I see what a difference it makes. Yes, everyone uses email and will continue to use email, but at the end of the day if you’re going to do a deal with someone why not hop on a call and get to know them? I’m a big believer in the old saying, “Businesses don’t do business with businesses, people do business with people.”
ZippyKid WordPress Hosting Rocks
I switched from WPEngine to ZippyKid and am having a great time with the service so far. I don’t know why I didn’t use a managed WordPress hosting solution before, it really makes a big difference and is already saving me both time and money. I will be writing a post about why I switched from WPEngine to ZippyKid and how I still think WPEngine is a rocking company, just not the right fit for me.
Fun with Facebook
Seeing Facebook close at $27 made me pretty darn happy. As I wrote in my post about the Facebook IPO I’ve been waiting for the stock to settle, hoping it didn’t skyrocket up, and so far so good. This was a very hotly contested topic when I wrote about it before and I absolutely understand why. I do think that Facebook could crack the mobile advertising code, and if they do the stock will go through the roof. It’s a big risk and not one that I think anyone should take with money that is essential for their livelihood. Still I think it’s a great company and with all the user data they have Google has to be wondering what they might be doing behind the scenes to dethrone the long-time online ad champion. I still haven’t put a dime of my money in but I absolutely plan to, right now I’m enjoying the ride from a distance.
Yes, these are the things going on in my head on a Friday night. Now it’s time to get back to watching Star Trek with Daina, yes we’re both big geeks!
